Western Sahara Desert Sunset

The local tribes call this area the Great Sand Sea. South of the Siwa Oasis in Western Egypt the sand dunes never seem to end. For thousands of miles you will see nothing but dune, after dune, after dune, after dune, after dune, after dune…. you get the picture.

I’ve walked many sand dunes in my life but never a sand this hardened by the wind. It felt almost rock solid as I traversed up this steep dune for a photo. The texture in the image shows just how solid the sand was.
