Golden Moai

I was given permission to visit the ranu raraku volcano after dark, watching the beautiful sunset and waiting for the stars to come out was such a treat! Astrophotography in this place is very rare. This is the quarry of the Moai, where the rapa nui people carved their ancestors from volcanic ash. So damn cool, easily the most amazing place on the island if not all of polynesia!

Easter island is the most remote inhabited place in the world, and on the rare cloudless nights you are treated with a blanket of stars overhead. The southern hemisphere sky makes this an especially magical sight as polynesian wayfinders used the stars to find the island to begin with. Truly awesome.
